new dress

about

A touching song about a couple facing the husband's pending death from cancer, and the amazingly brave and honest way in which they planned for the end. This is based on a true story I'd heard on NPR, and I tried to capture their story as clearly as possible. Apparently she'd come home with the new dress on the same day he was prepared to tell her his time had come. People are amazing.

lyrics

woke up this morning, more ready to go
i've been fighting this thing, long enough i suppose
and i may hang around, 'til Christmas or Spring
but those angels i'm hearing, well they're starting to sing
so baby buy yourself a new dress

woke up this morning, and now I'm ready to say
that I hope you can move on without me someday
but baby please find a man, that's a sweet as can be
for those nights that you're sad, 'cause you're thinking 'bout me

and all our friends will come to town
for a laugh and a tear
let's do it all while i'm still here...you can wear your new dress

woke up this morning, more ready to go
i've been fighting this thing, long enough i suppose
and you ask how i know, that it's my time to rest
I guess the same way you knew, it was time to buy that new dress.

about

Dave Boylan Boulder, Colorado

Thanks for visiting us online. Managing songs is like herding cats...old revisions, new revisions, added a solo here, a backing vocal there, blah blah blah. Hoping to update this as we finish the songs...always a few in progress. Look for some country'ish stuff over the next few months. Yee-Haw.
Thanks.
